John Dowd, AMA professional Motocross racer #16, surprised over 800 excited fans on January 20, 2001 in Manchester, NH at the New England Motocross Association’s (NEMA) Annual Awards Banquet, where he showed up with his brand new 2001 KTM 520 SX 4-Stroke, and personally congratulated each young racer being awarded that night. This was his first appearance with the KTM 520 SX, which he will race in the 2001 AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Series. Plans to race in Canada this year were scrapped when John signed a factory support deal with KTM to race the outdoor nationals in the United States.

John presented each Top 10 NEMA racer with an autographed “Award of Excellence” in memory of Michael Gould, a New England racer who passed away earlier this year. “These kids are terrific and really remind me of what racing is all about. Making special appearances to fans, especially in New England, feels great. I am honored to be a part of this night for them,” said John as he signed Renthal originally designed autograph cards.

John created the most excitement of the night during the NEMA auction when he donated a “Day of Riding with John Dowd” gift certificate. That auction item brought in an impressive $730 towards the Jason Shute Motocross Scholarship Fund.

John, the 1998 AMA 125 West Supercross Series Champion who has consecutively placed in the top 10 of the last nine years 250cc Motocross AMA Outdoor Nationals, is very excited about racing the 250cc AMA national circuit this year aboard the KTM 520 SX. Team owner, Extreme Racing Promotions (ERP), will announce sponsors in the near future.
