Former Supercross Champ Hits the Arenacross Track

AURORA, Ill. (November 12, 2003) – As the National Arenacross Series makes its way into Worcester, Mass. this weekend for round two of the series, a new face to the series will be stirring up some excitement. From Ludlow, Mass., John Dowd will hit the arenacross track for only the second time this year in front of his home crowd.

Dowd, a former factory KTM and Yamaha rider on the supercross circuit, signed a contact with the newly formed Empire Racing/Factory Suzuki team to compete in all 12 rounds of the National Arenacross Series. John Dowd isn’t afraid to admit he’s nervous about his first arenacross season. At last week’s press conference, Dowd stated that he did not know what to expect of arenacross.

"This is all new to me. I am used to riding and shifting gears, but with this you ride, jump and turn in a matter of seconds,” said John Dowd. “Everything happens so fast out there. I’m pretty nervous."

Last week at the opener in Albany, N.Y., Dowd did not make the top three in any of the four main events, but had a very strong showing for his first time out. Placing fifth in both the 125cc and 250cc main events on Friday, and placing eighth and fourth on Saturday night, Dowd proved to be a strong competitor this season.

Tickets can be purchased at the Worcester’s Centrum Centre Box Office, www.arenacross.com, Cycle Design Kawasaki, ticketmaster.com and any Ticketmaster location including 617-931-2000. Ticket prices are $20 for the gold section, $18 for the mid-level section and $10 for the tread head section. All prices do not include facility and convenience charges. All seats are $2 more on the day of the show.
