John Dowd Releases Plans For 2001

Recapped By: Doug Hein

First of all I want to apologies for not updating my site for a while, but as you know this time of year has been very busy for me. So let's get right to it and put some of the rumors to rest. Last week I made a decision not to race to upcoming 2001 Supercross season. Many factors went into my decision.  First of all the sponsorship deal I was working on feel through. As the time went on I needed to get on a bike and start training. This did not as quickly I needed it to. Even though I was physically in shape I needed to be in riding shape. Another thing that was a factor in my decision is that my ACL has been popping in and out for a while and I'm going to have it reconstructed. It has been bothering me for a while so without a major sponsor this year I decided to have the surgery. The surgeon will be taking a piece of my hamstring to reconstruct my ACL.  This procedure will help with my recovery because (what my Doctor says) when the material comes from your own body it helps it heal quicker. The Doctor that will perform the surgery is Joseph Sklar. He is one of the best I found and he has done a lot of these types of procedures.  My rehab will take approximately 4 months to get me feeling 100% again. I will then start training for the outdoor season.

Now, one other thing I need to cover is the rumor that I have signed a deal to ride the Canadian National series for 2001. This is not true. I have not signed a deal to ride anywhere for 2001. Well I should have lots of time to put together a deal for the outdoor series, wherever it may be.

Talk to you soon,

John Dowd
