VRM:

VRM Note:

John Dowd of Team Cernic KTM is going to try his hand at the 125 East Supercross Series. Many people probably don't remember that John is former 1998 125 West Coast Supercross Champion! VRM expects John to be on the podium before the Series is over as the Junk Yard Dog still has some bark in him.

VRM:

John where have you been training to prepare for the 125 East Coast Supercross Series?

John Dowd:

I went down to Larry Ward's house in South Carolina to practice. Its been working out great training with Larry! I have been practicing with Larry and Keith Johnson (From MA) on Larry's Supercross practice track. Another friend of Larry has a nice practice track we were able to ride on besides Larry's track. We had Factory Connection down there at the track with their box van and gear to help us get our suspension dialed in for the 2002 east coast Supercross season. I haven't done any Supercross Races yet this year, so I am not sure how I will do here at Indy.

VRM:

John how does it feel to be riding a KTM 125SX instead of the monster KTM 520SX you ride in the Outdoor Nationals?

John Dowd:

I love riding the 125 because it is so light and flickable compared to the 520. I like riding in the 125 Supercross class because I don't have to worry about doing the really big gnarly jumps that the top factory guys like Carmichael are doing in the rhythm sections. Carmichael was tripling (where it was not meant to be done) and tripling again in the rhythm section at Indy to make up time. The 125s can't clear those big jumps like 250's so I don't have to try the killer jumps.

VRM:

Is it less tiring to ride the 125 than the 520?

John Dowd:

In some ways itís less tiring physically, but you have to ride a 125 hard to go fast. You need to charge every corner to run fast lap times. I train just as hard to ride a 125 as I do to ride a 520!

VRM:

What do you think about the talent level in the 125 East Series this year?

John Dowd:

I think the 125 East is seriously stacked with talent this year. There are a lot of young up and coming kids who are trying to make their mark in Supercross.

VRM:

How do you expect to finish in the 125 East Series?

John Dowd:

I really don't know how I'll do. I haven't really ridden with many of the guys who are racing in the 125 East Series.

VRM:

John rode a steady race at Indy to finish 5th Overall in the 125 Main Event. Expect John's finishes to continue to improve as the season progresses.
